Title: EHR Systems Development Intern
Duty Station (City and Country): Mogadishu, Somalia 
Expected starting date: 15 January 2025
Expected duration: 3 months – Full-time assignment, with the possibility of extension for an additional 3 months

The overall purpose of the role:
Nomad Innovation Lab is seeking a motivated EHR Systems Development Intern to support the ongoing scale-up of the RAAD EHR system to over 60 health facilities across Somalia. In addition to assisting with the deployment and troubleshooting of the system, the intern will also contribute to system development and updates to improve functionality and user experience. The intern will work under the guidance of the technical lead and collaborate with other team members to ensure the successful development, implementation, and scaling of the EHR system.

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Assist in the development and update of the RAAD EHR system to improve functionality based on user feedback.

  • Participate in system design and development of new features to support clinic workflows.

  • Deploy, install, and configure the updated EHR system in new clinics.

  • Provide technical support during the scale-up process, troubleshooting both hardware and software issues.

  • Automate system installation processes where feasible to streamline expansion.

  • Document technical processes, issues, and solutions for internal knowledge sharing.

  • Collaborate with the technical team to ensure the system meets the evolving needs of health facilities.

  • Assist in training health facility staff on the use of new and updated EHR system features.

  • Participate in system testing and validation before deployment to new clinics.

  • Support routine maintenance tasks, such as system updates and backups, to ensure the EHR system runs smoothly.

  • Assist in resolving basic user issues and provide technical support to health facility staff. 

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or final year student) in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or a related field.

  • Experience in software development, preferably with health information systems or databases.

  • Familiarity with system installation, network setup, and troubleshooting.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work independently in a dynamic and resource-constrained environment.

Language:

  • Fluency in English and Somali is required.

Incentives:
Nomad Innovation Lab will provide a modest stipend to cover transportation and other related expenses during the internship period.
